НАСКІЛЬКИ КОНСЕРВАТИВНА РП
Українці в Україні й діаспорі захоплюються консерватизмом у США
Це — мій новий текст із серії «Цікаве америкознавство». Призвідцем до його написання став соцмережевий запис українського філософа Сергія Чаплиґіна, який я час від часу публікує щось таке, на що не можна не відреаґувати. Я вдячний йому за це, бо я давно вже обіцяв моїм американським читачам висловити свій погляд на стан консервативної ідеї в США. Звісно, цей текст не вичерпує моє бачення обговорюваного явище. Можливо, з часом я напишу про це більше й докладніше.
Як відомо, консерватизм — це ідеологічне спрямування, яке має на увазі прихильність усталеним традиціям і спадкоємність у політичній, культурній, соціальній та релігійній сферах. Назва ідеології походить від латинського слова «conservo», що в перекладі на українську мову означає «зберігати», «берегти».
Отже, йдеться про вірність традиціям і звичаям, а також про збереження і розвиток неперехідних цінностей.
Те, що відбувається у консервативному прошарку американського суспільства, насправді консерватизмом і назвати не можна.
Активізувалися не традиціоналісти з високим рівнем свідомості й громадянської зрілості, а ретроґради — люди, які хочуть чи прагнуть іти назад (Make America great again), при цьому абсолютно не усвідомлюючи мети.
Класичний приклад цього ретроґрадства — боротьба з абортами, яка є фішкою республіканців упродовж десятків і десятків років.
У який спосіб вони це роблять? Правильно: заборонами, аж до криміналізації дій жінок, які хочуть зробити аборт, та лікарів, які готові надати відповідну хірургічну послугу. У чому тут консерватизм? Та ні в чому. Маємо чистої води радикалізм, та ще й лівацького штибу. Не кажу вже про те, що це — боротьба з наслідками, а не викорінення причин.
Чим мали б зайнятися справжні консерватори, щоб мінімізувати кількість абортів (повністю викорінити явище неможливо — на те є маса обʼєктивних причин)? Перш за все тим, щоб створювати в суспільстві такі умови, за яких не виникала б небажана вагітність жінок. Це — додержання традицій сексуального виховання молодих поколінь у сімʼях і в школах, популяризація й пропаганда культури взаємин між статями і таке інше.
Між іншим, у найконсервативнішому сеґменті американського суспільства — амішів, менонітів та й мусульман, — проблема заборони абортів навіть не обговорюється, бо їм немає що обговорювати.
На превеликий жаль, у країні з великими історично-релігійними традиціями усе це зійшло на пси.
Так само можна пройтися й по інших засадах консерватизму і подивитися, як вони культивуються у суспільстві, щоб побачити, що консерватизм у США набрав невластивого справжньому консерватизмові змісту і форм.
Проблема тут полягає в тому, що в лідери консерваторів пробиваються опортуністи або й авантюристи з невисоким рівнем культури та освіти, які використовують низький рівень свідомості й освіченості прихильників Республіканської партії для досягнення своїх цілей і реалізації своїх амбіцій.
Ключовою фігурою республіканців зараз є Дональд Трамп. Придивіться до цієї постаті, що в ній є консервативного, крім самоідентифікації як «націоналіста» та безкінечно повторюваного лозунга Рейгана «Make America great». Та нічого! Ви читали бодай одну статтю Трампа, в якій він продемонстрував би своє тлумачення консерватизму і своє бачення втілення обстоюваних принципів у життя. «Мистецтво договорняка» (мій переклад назви його найвідомішого твору) — усе, на що він здатний. Промовчу про зовсім неконсервативну історію його особистого життя, яке є прикладом життя типового ліберала.
Зверніть увагу на те, що Трамп не брав раніше і не бере зараз участі у дебатах кандидатів під час праймеріз. Причина проста: гострий на язик, він, однак, не має чого сказати по суті і не матиме шансу дійти до партійної конвенції й перемогти. Тому він бере лементом, у чому допомагає йому і його телевізійний образ його двох конкурсних телевізійних шоу — з бізнесу та краси (і одно, і друге мали ліберальний характер).
До речі, Трамп свого часу зробив спробу зробити політичну карʼєру в Демократичній партії, але хутко зрозумів, що він конкурентно неспроможний серед у цій партії, де лідерами стають люди зазвичай із дипломами юристів та ученими ступенями і званнями.
Через таких аґресивних опортуністів і авантюристів, як Трамп, які роблять погоду в Республіканській партії, на політичний олімп важко просуватися справжнім консерваторам, які є зазвичай скромними людьми, не мають доступу до великого капіталу й самі не є багатіями.
Прикладом є класичний консерватор, колишній губернатор одного із найконсервативніших штатів у США Майкл Пенс. Свого часу Трамп узяв його на віце-президента, знаючи, що Пенс не буде конкурувати з ним. Пенс довів свою консервативну порядність під час подій 6 січня 2021 року. Цього року він висував свою кандидатуру на президента, і його варто було б підтримувати, але саме фінансовий фактор спонукав його зійти з дистанції на початках передвиборної кампанії в Республіканській партії.

HOW CONSERVATIVE GOP IS
Ukrainians in Ukraine & Diaspora Admire the U.S. Conservatism
This is my new text in the “Interesting American Studies” series. The reason for this writing was the social network record by the Ukrainian philosopher Sergiy Chaplygin, who from time to time publishes something that one cannot help but react to. I am grateful to him for this, for I have long promised my American readers my views on the state of conservative ideas in the United States. Of course, this text does not exhaust my vision of the discussed phenomenon. Maybe over time I will write about it more and in more detail.
As you know, conservatism is an ideological orientation that implies commitment to established traditions and continuity in the political, cultural, social and religious spheres. The name of the ideology comes from the Latin word “conservo”, which means “to preserve”, “to preserve”.
So, it is about loyalty to traditions and customs, as well as about the preservation and development of immutable values.
What is happening in the conservative stratum of American society cannot really be called conservatism.
It’s not traditionalists with a high level of consciousness and civic maturity who became active, but retrograds — people who want or aspire to go back (Make America great again), while being completely unaware of the goal.
A classic example of this retrogradation is the fight against abortion, which has been a Republican asset for decades and decades.
How do they do it? That’s right: bans, up to the point of criminalizing the actions of women who want to have an abortion and doctors who are ready to provide the appropriate surgical service. What is conservatism here? But nothing. We have pure radicalism, and also a left wing. I am not talking about the fact that it is a struggle against the consequences, and not the eradication of the causes.
What should real conservatives do to minimize the number of abortions (it is impossible to completely eradicate the phenomenon — there are many objective reasons for this)? First of all, to create such conditions in society, under which unwanted pregnancy of women would not occur. These are the observance of the traditions of sexual education of young generations in families and schools, the popularization and promotion of the culture of relations between the sexes, and so on.
By the way, in the most conservative segment of American society — Amish, Mennonites and Muslims — the problem of banning abortion is not even discussed, because they have nothing to discuss.
Unfortunately, in a country with great historical and religious traditions, all this went to waste.
In the same way, you can walk through other foundations of conservatism and see how they are cultivated in society, to see that conservatism in the USA has acquired content and forms that are not characteristic of true conservatism.
The problem here is that opportunists or adventurers with a low level of culture and education, who use the low level of consciousness and education of the Republican Party supporters to achieve their goals and realize their ambitions, make their way into the leaders of conservatives.
The key figure of the Republicans now is Donald Trump. Look at this figure, what’s conservative about him other than his self-identification as a “nationalist” and Reagan’s endlessly repeated “Make America great” slogan. But nothing! Have you read at least one article by Trump in which he would demonstrate his interpretation of conservatism and his vision of implementing the principles he advocates into life? “The Art of the Deal” is all he is capable of. I will say nothing about the completely non-conservative history of his personal life, which is an example of the life of a typical liberal.
Please note that Trump did not and does not participate in candidate debates during the primaries. The reason is simple: sharp-tongued, he, however, has nothing to say in substance and will not have a chance to reach the party convention and win. Therefore, he laments that his television star image from his two competition television shows, business and beauty (both of which were liberal in nature), helps him.
By the way, Trump once made an attempt to make a political career in the Democratic Party, but quickly realized that he is not competitive in this party, where people with law diplomas and academic degrees and titles usually become leaders.
Because of such aggressive opportunists and adventurers as Trump, who make the weather in the Republican Party, it is difficult for true conservatives, who are usually modest people, do not have access to a lot of capital and are not rich themselves, to advance to the political Olympus.
An example is a classic conservative, the former governor of one of the most conservative states in the USA, Michael Pence. At one time, Trump picked him upas his vice president, knowing that Pence would not compete with him. Pence proved his conservative integrity during the events of January 6, 2021. He was running for president this year and should be supported, but it was the financial factor that prompted him to step aside early in the Republican campaign.
