REACHING THE DEEPEST FAMILY ROOTS

Clan MacDougall Society of North America accepted me as a member of the Society. The certificate announces that I join those of this name and sept in bringing their proud heritage of good Scottish Ancestry and all it implies, to help in building a better world.

Kyle Jones, CMSNA President, in his welcoming letter wrote the following:

“You are joining your kinsmen from one of the oldest of all the Scottish clans, with roots following the death of Somerled, Lord of the Isles in 1164”.

Somerled of Argyll (1100-1164) was a military and political leader of the Scottish Isles of Norse-Gaelic descent. Somerland drove the Vikings out of Scotland and became King of Mann and the Isles. He was the founder of Clan Somhairle, the father of the founder of Clan MacDougall, and the paternal grandfather of the founder of Clan MacDonald (which includes the MacDonalds and MacAlisters).

Somerled is famous for the fact that he managed to create a fairly strong state, which allowed to preserve the ancient Celtic culture of western Scotland, despite the increasing English influence and feudal traditions.

Somerled is the oldest person in history known to me to whom I am genetically matched by Cellular Research Institute (CRI) DNA formula.

Північноамериканське товариство клану МакДуґаллів прийняло мене своїм членом. Сертифікат засвідчує, що я приєднуюся до тих, хто носить це ім’я, і прилучаюся до їхньої гордої спадщини доброго шотландського походження та до всього, що з цього випливає, щоб брати участь у розбудові кращого світу.

Сомерлед славний тим, що йому вдалося створити досить міцну державу, яка дозволила зберегти давню кельтську культуру західної Шотландії, незважаючи на дедалі більший англійський вплив і феодальні традиції.
