NOAM CHOMSKY ON RUSSIAN WAR IN UKRAINE

In April 2022, there was an interview with pro-Russian Noam Chomsky conducted by Jeremy Scahill of The Intercept that caught my attention.

I shared my short impressions of that interview with my network on LinkedIn. A few days later, I wrote the following letter to Jeremy Scahill:

Your Interview with Noam Chomsky

Dear Mr. Scahill:

Last night, I had a chance to watch and listen to your conversation with Noam Chomsky.

There are some thoughts and observations of yours and N. Chomsky that I agree with. As an expert on American studies and a Journalist educated by Soviets (I have a Master degree from M. Lomonosov Moscow State University and a PhD degree from Taras Shevchenko State University), on many US topics/issues I am even more critical than two of you. At the same time, it looks like I am more critical (because of better knowledge) in regards to the Soviet/Russian topics/issues as well.

Here his what I wrote on my LinkedIn page immediately after listening to your conversation:

“It looks like 93 years old Noam Chomsky has no idea about the nature of Russian war against Ukraine or is intentionally takes Russian side. Very sad…”

Unfortunately, I don’t have time for going into detail analysis about what was being said in your video. I wish I had time to write an article…

Thank to your conversation, I realized why Noam Chomsky was highly respected in the Soviet Union: as students, we were referred many times to his books. He might be very respected in the nowadays Russia as well — I have no doubt.

For decades, I considered Chomsky as a Russian immigrant. Yesterday, I checked with Wikipedia and discovered that the guy was born in… the US. I am shocked, and now I am wondering where he got his Soviet mentality from. Kremlin should be very thankful for him. And actually for you too as the one who completely agree with whatever was said.

Getting back to the topic of your conversation with N. Chomsky. As I wrote on my LinkedIn page, neither one of you has doesn’t understand the civilizational (cultural) nature of Russian war in Ukraine. Just no clue! Period.

Otherwise, you wouldn’t be talking about any kind of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. By the way, it was Russia who requested negotiations after its blitzkrieg war failure — Moscow didn’t expect that Ukraine will fight back that hard. It’s Russia that continues bombing Ukrainian cities, towns and villages causing mostly civilians deaths.

There were at least 25 Russian wars against Ukraine before, and several hungers wars — Holodomors. Russia won’t stop even if Ukrainians surrender. As Russia threatens Europe, United States and the entire world, the civilized countries have to do everything possible to make this war the very last for Russia.

How? There are two ways. Number one: you have to fight back siding with Ukraine. Number two: give Ukraine everything needed to win this war.

I understand that Europe and even United States are so afraid of Russian nuclear weapons that they will do everything to avoid being involved in this war directly. That’s fine. Ukraine as the Motherland of European civilization is capable to win this war — just give Ukrainian military all weapons they need.

Ukrainians is a peaceful nation that never fought wars of aggression, but they have a Cossack spirit, which makes them a very militant nation.

I am open for more educational communication. At the same time, I ask you to add your signature to the APPEAL BY REPRESENTATIVES OF UKRAINIANS WORLDWIDE & PEOPLE ALL OVER THE WORLD WHO SUPPORT UKRAINE & UKRAINIANS IN THEIR WAR AGAINST RUSSIAN AGGRESSOR.

Thank you for your time and attention!

Sincerely,

Prof. Dr. Volodymyr Ivanenko,

Ukrainians Worldwide Movement Organizing Committee Chairman,

Ukrainian University & Ukrainian University Club President.

Jeremy Scahill did not answer my letter. Now, I got an occasion to pull out this letter.

Today, we have another discussion of propaganda in the Ukrainian Proxy War with now 94 years old Noam Chomsky and Alexander Mercouris conducted by Glen Diesen.

Glenn Diesen is a professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway and an editor at the Russia in Global Affairs journal. That’s how he is introduced on Russia Today site where he just published and article titled There’s only one way to find out who destroyed the Nord Stream pipelines.
